Published three years after L’Équipage (1923), Le Triplace belongs to the “aviation” side of Kessel’s work, illustrated with a burin engraving by Bécan originally intended for an illustrated edition of the novel to be published by Gallimard. Gallimard, unwilling to relinquish his rights over one of his promising young authors, put an end to the project, and it was under the pseudonym Jacques Kessel that the writer had this Triplace published by Marcel Lesage, reusing Bécan’s engraving as a frontispiece.
The story is followed by Borée, an interview-narrative with Serge Lifar that Kessel had published two years earlier in La Nouvelle Revue Française.
