To celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of Éditions de La Martinière, Yann Arthus-Bertrand created an extraordinary book, reissuing a selection of photographs from La Terre vue du ciel (Earth from Above): 115 images (about thirty of them previously unpublished) are presented one per page, without any cropping, and for the first time visible in their entirety. A sanded wooden display stand allows them to be viewed “from above.”
La Terre vue du ciel, Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s cult book, was an immense success on its publication in 1999, selling more than 4 million copies in twenty-four languages, with traveling exhibitions held around the world. It is the best-selling illustrated book in history — a book for which Arthus-Bertrand had mortgaged his house, later acknowledging that its success had changed his life, and that of his publisher.
