This collaborative work was written jointly by three men, all admitted together in 1914 to the École normale supérieure but sent to war instead of taking up their studies: André Ducasse, Jacques Meyer and Gabriel Perreux.
Richly illustrated with drawings, maps and photographs, it traces the major stages of daily life for the French during the First World War, in a spirit of collective memory to which Genevoix contributes both a preface and an afterword: enough to show that this is a return, alongside them, to a time that only those who lived through it can truly recapture.
As new.
From the library of Maurice Genevoix, at “Les Vernelles,” with bookplate.
