These Douze Poèmes were composed and printed by Guy Lévis Mano for his own pleasure and for his friends and fellow workers: twelve pieces by Guillaume de Machault, Christine de Pisan, François Villon, Anonymous, Arthur Rimbaud, René Char, Paul Éluard, Juan Ramón Jiménez, Rainer Maria Rilke, Georges Schéhadé, Andrée Chedid and Pierre Jean Jouve, each decorated with a line reproduction of an old woodcut astrological vignette.
A French poet, Maryse Lafont was a companion of René Char, who dedicated numerous poems to her and corresponded with her between 1951 and 1966. She published four collections, all with G.L.M., between 1953 and 1962, the last illustrated by Joan Miró.
