Histoire de ma guerre pour mon fils
Published in the “Bibliothèque du Combattant” series, founded by Éditions Les Étincelles, this account belongs to the nationalist and commemorative publishing movement of the interwar period. Founded in April 1928 by Fernand Sorlot, close to Action française, and Marcel Bucard, later the founder of the French fascist party Le Francisme, Les Étincelles specialized in texts honoring the veterans of 1914–18. The following year, the same house would publish Maurice Genevoix’s H.O.E., devoted to the Hôpitaux d’Origine d’Étapes.
In this sober and didactic testimony, the author addresses his son, recounting with emotion his experience of the war, in a style without literary pretension but animated by a strong desire to pass on his memories.
A touching copy, preserved in the library of Maurice Genevoix, who evidently followed closely the publications of this publishing house so deeply engaged in the memory of combatants.
