A late “farce” comedy, it is one of Anouilh’s darkest plays, for which he brought together Guy Tréjean, Michel Lonsdale and Catherine Arditi: “as almost always, Anouilh chose and directed the actresses and actors with great intelligence and sensitivity. If Jean Anouilh showed his characters the same measure, the attentive rigor and the fairness of heart that he lavishes on his actors, his theater would be more engaging. More dangerous.” (Michel Cournot, Le Monde, 6 December 1976).
