Original print of Dalí photographing Gala wearing the famous iconic jacket arranged by the painter, which he would later use in his canvas Le Sphinx de sucre (1933).
Born Elena Ivanovna Diakonova, the young Russian woman met Dalí for the first time in 1929, in Cadaqués: the artist fell instantly under the spell of the woman who was to become his muse, after having been the wife of Paul Éluard and the lover of Max Ernst. This coup de foudre led to their marriage in 1958, Gala becoming the artist’s sole female model and principal source of inspiration, whom he would ceaselessly glorify and depict as a living myth and modern icon.
