Once the secret was revealed, the July reprinting of the book featured a new cover: on the front, Gary’s face appears on a fictitious postage stamp; on the back, the following text: “One would be wrong to think that I chose a pseudonym for Les Têtes de Stéphanie because it is what is sometimes grudgingly called ‘a spy novel’. I did it because I sometimes feel the need to change my identity, to separate myself from myself, for the space of a book. (…) I am revealing my true identity today because, in any case, certain critics have already uncovered the secret of this ‘reincarnation’…”
Rare as a review copy.
