Paris, Frédéric Chambriand, (December) 1949.
1 vol. (115 x 180 mm) of 150 p. and [1] f. Half black morocco with bands, smooth spine, gilt title, gilt top edge, original wrappers and spine preserved (binding signed Montecot).
First edition.

One of 150 copies on vélin de rénage (no. 140).

This novel, begun in 1936, was intended as the sequel to Mort à crédit. “The manuscript disappeared at the Liberation. About a hundred leaves were nonetheless recovered, and were published for the first time in 1949, while Céline was still in exile” (Laffont-Bompiani). The story has since changed, as thousands of unpublished leaves resurfaced in the summer of 2021. To be continued…

Old foxing to the first blank leaf, otherwise a very fine copy.
