This first edition is one of Simenon’s rarest and hardest titles to find in fine condition. Mon ami Maigret is the only title in the Maigret series to receive this treatment within this collection, of which it constitutes the seventh volume. The collection would go on to include the following titles: Maigret à New York, La Pipe de Maigret, Maigret et l’inspecteur malchanceux, Maigret et son mort, Les Vacances de Maigret, Maigret chez le coroner, Maigret et la vieille dame and La Première enquête de Maigret.
Only four novels were printed on deluxe paper with illustrated dust jacket and wrappers, none of them Maigret titles: La neige était sale and Pedigree in 1948; Les Quatre Jours du pauvre homme and Les Fantômes du chapelier in 1949.
