First published by Fayard in 2005, La Possibilité d’une île (The Possibility of an Island) presents Michel Houellebecq’s speculative extension of his recurring obsessions: emotional isolation, the erosion of social bonds and the temptation of immortality. The novel follows a comedian turned guru, later cloned across the centuries, in a post-apocalyptic world where the “neo-humans” retain only fragments of memory from their human past.
This fine-press edition, produced by the Galerie du Bourdaric in 2014, gives the text a rare material presence: each copy is enriched with an original composition illustrating an extract from the novel, echoing Houellebecq’s disenchanted world.
This limited printing is the only illustrated edition of the text.
