Le Retour de Jules

Paris, Albin Michel, (April) 2017.
1 vol. (150 x 220 mm) of 166 p. and [5] f. In wrappers, uncut.
First edition. One of 25 copies on vélin bouffant Salzer paper (no. 3), the only paper issue.

A direct sequel to Jules (2015), this novel continues the narrator’s voice and follows the reconversion of the Labrador, “unemployed as a guide dog since Alice regained her sight,” into an assistance dog for people with epilepsy. When an absurd administrative decision threatens the animal with euthanasia, the (separated) couple find themselves facing the challenge of saving their dog within twenty-four hours: a tender suspense in which Van Cauwelaert wittily highlights the absurdities of bureaucracy.
