This delightful one-act comedy, Anatole France’s first, was written for Mme Gaston de Caillavet and first performed on 1 June 1898 at her mansion at 12 Avenue Hoche, with Mme Gaston de Caillavet, Robert de Flers and Georges Feydeau in the cast.
The edition is an autographic reproduction of Anatole France’s manuscript, with a frontispiece portrait etched by Ladislas Loéwy.
