A collection of three short stories by Conrad, all set in the region of the Indian Ocean. “The Secret Sharer,” “A Smile of Fortune” and “Freya of the Seven Isles” were written at the end of 1909, just after Conrad had completed Under Western Eyes. All three stories draw on specific circumstances of his life, detailed here in the preface by G. Jean-Aubry, his translator, and by Conrad himself in the introduction that follows.
