L’Origine du monde was serialized in La Nouvelle Revue française from May to July 1988. The text was later expanded with two additional chapters and published under the title La Grande Beune by Verdier in 1995. Christian Bobin passionately championed the work: “Read it, and then write to him. Scold him. Tell him it’s a shame — when you hold gold, you don’t let it go like that. The fish of the book is more than halfway out of the water. Tell him to make an effort, just one effort, to finally give us this book of the child lost in his own flesh and spirit. Let him bring it into the light, this owl-shy child: we will open our arms and our door to him. We will seat him at the table, near us, in the light and the calm. Tell him we are waiting for him.”
