“Awaïté Pawana!” was the cry once called out by the lookout on whaling ships, in the Nattick Indian language. The theme of the whale, a recurring presence in literature from Jonah to Luis Sepúlveda, by way of Melville and Jules Verne, is here revisited in a narrative inspired by the life of the legendary whaler Charles Melville Scammon, in search of the secret place where the cetaceans gather.
