A delightful account by Stevenson, who traveled with the donkey Modestine through what is today known as the “Stevenson Trail” in the Cévennes, in September 1878.
In French, Stevenson’s book was first partly published in 1901 in the Bulletin illustré du Club cévenol, followed by a first translated edition by Jane Adams Mulholland, published by Stock in 1910, without deluxe-paper copies.
