The artist recalled: “In April 1944, I was dazzled by the beauty of the streets of Paris. I made a series of gouaches which were shown to Éluard after the Liberation. He wrote a poem based on them, which he entitled En avril 1944 Paris respirait encore,” printed by the Galerie Charpentier, in a cream wrapper.
A very fine copy of this charming work, in the condition of publication, a rare state.
