This play in two acts by Samuel Beckett was first performed in 1961.

Well received by critics, it was cited by The Independent as one of the forty greatest plays of all time. Winnie, buried up to her waist, follows an absurd daily routine, chatting with her taciturn husband, Willie. Her favorite refrain is “Oh les beaux jours”: even when buried up to her neck, she continues to talk and to remember happy days, as though nothing were amiss.

A fine copy, inscribed to Robert Carlier, literary director of the Club français du livre, who also worked with Pascal Pia at the Cercle du livre précieux before becoming director of the “Poésie / Gallimard” series from 1961.
