The first two collectible sticker albums devoted to the French football championship. They were published before the first Panini albums, which at the time existed only in Italy: the Italian firm's first album devoted to the French championship, Football 1976, would not appear until six years later. Preface by Jacques Georges, president of the Fédération française de Football, in the first volume, and by Jean Sadoul, president of the Groupement du Football professionnel, in the second.
In 1961, two newspaper vendor brothers from Modena, Giuseppe and Benito Panini, invented Calciatori (“footballers” in Italian), a collectible sticker album featuring players from the Italian football championship: the very first Panini album. Its success inspired other publishers, first in England and then in Spain, who copied the model toward the end of the 1960s. France followed, producing its first two albums for the 1970–1971 and 1971–1972 championships.
Unlike the Panini stickers, which are fully self-adhesive, the AGE cards leave the player’s biographical text visible beneath the image; they are glued only along the top margin.
