A remarkable essay directed against Franco and Maurras, continuing the line of Les Grands Cimetières sous la lune, published in 1938. These were pamphlets written in 1938 and 1939, new chapters in the violent campaign Bernanos had waged since 1936 against General Franco’s “Crusade” and against reactionary and conservative Catholic circles, notably against his former mentor Charles Maurras: the dialogue between the two men — which occupies nearly half the book — is particularly compelling, a masterpiece of satire recalling the great political debate of L’Imposture.

In fine condition.
