S.l., 1956.
1 piece of bark (birch?) painted on the front (125 x 65 mm).
Poem-object on wood bark.
René Char wrote his poem in black ink and illuminated it using a technique similar to pyrography.
We apologize for the imperfect translation generated by Deepl for the purposes of the show.
“Paris is now complete. I will live there. My arm no longer casts my soul afar. I belong. R.C.” and on the back ‘R. Char 1956’.
This short poem is the first extract from the poetic suite “Neuf merci pour Vieira da Silva”, published in 1957 in La Bibliothèque est en feu et autres poèmes. The manuscript of the poem, given to Pierre Bérès, was dated 1955 and this poem-object was produced by Char the following year.
Char produced several other objects of this type, on pieces of wood or pebbles.
